Wenn es um die Gestaltung seines Gesichts geht, hat der Mensch, insbesondere der etwas eitel veranlagte, hohe Ansprüche. Und das hat gute Gründe, denn das Gesicht ist der zentrale Punkt, der die Aufmerksamkeit der Mitmenschen auf sich zieht. Infolgedessen spielt beim Design einer Brillenfassung die Ästhetik eine grosse Rolle. Die Funktionalität muss ohnehin gegeben sein (dafür sorgt z.B. auch Ihr Augenoptiker), aber was nützt diese, wenn man sich mit der neuen Brille nicht mehr in die Öffentlichkeit wagen möchte?

 

It is not only an attribute of vain people to have high ambitions when it comes to shape and create the own face. And there are good reasons for that because the face is always the central point of attention. Knowing this, aesthetics are fundamental for every designer of spectacle frames. The specs must be functional, technically up to date and must do what they are made for. But what does all this help, if you feel that you don’t look good?
And here starts the task of a good designer. He needs to create specs that have the feel-good-factor. They must make you feel good and make you look good.

Ein Brillendesign sollte in erster Linie gesichtsharmonisch sein. Bei aller Aussergewöhnlichkeit gibt es doch einige strenge Regeln für ästhetisches Design. Die Scheibenformen müssen ausgewogen sein und sollten weder einen traurigen, noch einen schmetterlingshaften Ausdruck verleihen. Dabei ist es Geschmackssache, bzw. eine Frage der Gesichtsform, ob eher kantige oder weiche Formen zu bevorzugen sind. Aber es gibt eben viele Möglichkeiten, ein Oval oder eine Rautenform zu gestalten. Einige sehen auf dem Papier noch recht witzig aus, aber längst nicht alle überzeugen auch im Gesicht....
 

 A frame design needs to be balanced, even if it looks outstanding. If the shaping does not meet the requirements of the natural given face-shaping, it will distort the anatomy instead of emphasizing it and the look will be artificial. It is a matter of taste if you prefer eyeshapes with softened curves or with sharp corners, depending if you like to appear rather dynamic, romantic or whatever. But it is not a matter of taste, how the rectangle or the oval are designed. A lot of experience about the relation between frame and face is necessary to create the good-looking rectangles, ovals, heart-shapes, etc.

Bevor a new frame-style goes into our sample-ranges it is tested and judged in many faces.Although every face needs its particular style to look nice, we have minimum requests to each design which we release. Frames who do not come up to our desire for aesthetics and taste will never leave our house

Bevor eine Brille in unsere Kollektionen geht, wird sie erst in vielen Gesichtern bewertet. Und nur das, was unseren Ansprüchen an das Brillendesign in vollem Umfang gerecht wird, wird auch produziert. Alles andere verbleibt als netter Entwurf oder wandert ins Kuriositätenkabinett

Kleine Dekore oder Applikationen geben der Brille die individuelle Note. Dezente Asymetrien unterstreichen die natürliche Asymetrie des Gesichts. An Brücke, Backen und Bügeln kann man sehr viel falsch machen, aber auch sehr viel richtig.

Little decorations and applications give each frame that individual touch. Decent non-symetrical parts underline the natural non-symetric face.Decorations on joints, temples and bridges of a frame can be that very nice feature, but can also be disturbing if done wrong.

Die Gesamtkomposition ist es, worauf es ankommt. Alle Linien müssen die Gesichtsanatomie unterstreichen und ein harmonisches Ganzes bilden. Alle Applikationen müssen in Grösse, Form und Beschaffenheit darauf abgestimmt sein. Nur wenn alles harmonisch miteinander übereinstimmt, sieht die spätere fertige Brille im Gesicht gut aus.

Ausgefallene und flippige Designs zu zeichnen, ist nicht schwierig. Wesentlich schwieriger ist es, ausgefallene und flippige Designs zu entwickeln, aus denen später eine Brille wird die schön macht.

The only thing that counts is, how the final frame looks in the face. Usually it looks good if the designer has done his job good in all aspects. That means that the eyeshapes are balanced, the decorations are in the right place in the right size and all components have a well balanced relation in size, shape and thickness to each other.

Drawing fancy designs is not so difficult. But it is a challenge to develop fancy designs that will create beautiful faces.

Natürlich darf die Funktionalität der Brille durch das Design nicht beeinträchtigt werden. Sie muß sich sozusagen aus der Gestaltung ergeben (und nicht umgekehrt!). Ebenso ist es wichtig, daß die Entwürfe fertigungstechnisch realisierbar sind. Letztendlich wird aber alles der Ästhetik untergeordnet, denn mit einer funktionellen Brille die nicht das Optimale aus dem jeweiligen Gesicht herausholt und es natürlich aber interessant erscheinen läßt, wollen wir niemand in die Öffentlichkeit schicken.

Einen ganz besonderen Reiz bieten die randlosen Fassungen, da sie nicht so plakativ wirken und deshalb in den Scheibenformen etwas mutiger gestaltet werden können. Für den Designer sind die randlosen Modelle eine Herausforderung an das Gestaltungsvermögen, für die Brillenträgerin sind sie die Möglichkeit, ihren persönlichen Stil sehr modern und progressiv zum Ausdruck zu bringen, dies aber dezent und ohne Signalwirkung.

A spectacle frame must be functional. It must be constructed in a way that it will be your seeing-aid, that it will be comfortable and that it will be safe. But all the functionality must be based on an aesthetic design. Eyes are very precious organs. They do not only guide you through the world they say sometimes more than words if they reflect your soul. We consider that with every design. And we make sure to create precious products for precious eyes.

Eine “Bohrbrille” (so nennen wir die randlosen) bedarf aber auch einer pfleglicheren Behandlung, als eine normale Fassung, denn die Gläser werden von keinem Rand geschützt und bilden teilweise, bei 3-teiligen Garnituren, den Basishalt der Brille und fangen alle Stöße und Verbiegungen auf.

The rimless spectacles are always a challenge for the designer. Since they do not have frames for the lenses, those can have fancy shapings without looking importunate. If there are no rims around the lenses the specs become of course more fragile but the interesting designs usually make more than up for that.

Es ist eine Frage des persönlichen Geschmacks, ob man lieber eine Vollrandbrille, eine teils randlose oder eine Glasbohrbrille bevorzugt. In jedem Falle ist die Scheibenform das ausschlaggebende Gestaltungselement und in erster Linie dafür verantwortlich, ob die Brille im Gesicht harmonisch und bekömmlich wirkt. Die Gestaltung der anderen Teile bietet ebenfalls einen gewissen Freiraum, aber eben nur soweit, wie es den Gesamtausdruck des Modells unterstützt. Ob man hier eher romantische Applikationen oder klare Elemente bevorzugt, ist ebenfalls Geschmackssache.

It is a matter of the personal taste again if you prefer a full-rim, half-rim or rimless frame. It is always the shape of the lenses which gives the specs their basic character and which makes them suitable or unsuitable for your face. When we create new specs, we always see the faces behind them. And in the prototype stage we test them on different faces. If the results are not satisfactory the specs are re-done until they come up to our expectations.
